Welcome to UHSports at The University of Hertfordshire

UHSU Logo

Welcome to the University of Hertfordshire. As you will discover the University has a wide range of sporting opportunities for students of all abilities from the casual participant to world-class performer.

These opportunities are a combination of our coaching set up, support networks and the state-of-the-art £15 Million Sports Village that plays host to the majority of the sports teams and activities at UH.

After the record breaking year of the 2005 – 2006 academic year, in which the Universtity saw eight teams promoted, the University had another good year in 2006 - 2007. During this year five University teams gained promotion into a higher league (Men's 2nd Badminton, Men's 2nd Hockey, Women's 2nd Netball, Men's 1st Rugby Union, Men's 2nd Rugby Union), Many other teams performed well many just missing out on promotion by one place, with others consolidating their postition after gaining promotion the year before.

We are committed to building on last season’s achievements during the 2007– 2008 academic year and are investing more than ever in coaches, staff and other resources to give you the best possible chance of success during your time at UH.

Within this section of the web site you will find information about how to join a University representative team, how to take part in non-representative intra mural sport, how you become a member at the Sports Village, our sports scholarship scheme available to talented athletes in a range of sports and potential job opportunities as a coach, swim teacher or fitness instructor.

If you have any questions relating to items covered, please contact Bryn Clark, Sports Development Manager on 01707 281194 / b.n.clark@herts.ac.uk

How Do I Join a University Team?
The University of Hertfordshire offers opportunities for inter-University representative competition in a range of sports from archery to skiing, as well as the traditional sports. All clubs and societies are represented at fresher's fair.

Students aspiring to play University representative sport need to attend fresher's fair and register their interest with their respective sport.

If you are a genuinely talented performer we would like to hear from you as soon as possible after you arrive as you may be eligible for a sports scholarship.

Please leave your name, sport, level achieved and contact details with Bryn Clark, b.n.clark@herts.ac.uk / 01707 281194.

Trials for each sport and each team will then take place during the first two weeks of October where students will be able to try out for a place in a representative side and/or experience the recreational aspects of the club. Inter-University fixtures and Intra-mural competitions will commence shortly after.

For further information on joining a UH representative team please contact Rhian or Katy at UHAU on 01707 281180 or visit www.uhsu.herts.ac.uk

Intra Mural Sport – Competitive Sport Within UH
For those students that do not make it into a University representative team or do not wish to compete against other Universities there is another option.

Intra Mural Sport exists for any UH students that wish to play social competitive sport against other teams from the University without the need for travel to external venues.

Students develop their own teams and play against other UH teams at the Sports Village in a structured league with standard rules and referees.

Currently Intra Mural football (11-a-side teams) and Netball leagues are organised and participants benefit from regular fixtures over the course of the academic year. Last year’s Intra Mural football league was highly competitive and proved to be a real success so make sure you enter a team soon.

Please note that information relating to Intra Mural sport and application forms will be posted on Studynet.

For further information and an application form, please contact Katy Hollands at UHAU on 01707 281180 or look out for application forms.
