Q. Where is the Hertfordshire Sports Village?

A. We are conveniently located on the de Havilland Campus, part of the Hatfield Business Park, just 5 minutes from the M25. Click here for further details and a map.

Q. Why should I visit the new facility?

A. The Hertfordshire Sports Village is a new, state-of-the-art Sports Facility with something to offer everyone, from complete beginners to elite and professional sports people. Whatever your sport or preferred activity, you will have the opportunity to enjoy great quality sports, health & fitness facilities and services.

Q. Are there any clubs or societies that use Hertfordshire Sports Village?

A. Yes. A whole range of student and non-student clubs use the Sports Village. For further information click here.

Q. How do I join a University Club?

All clubs and societies are represented at Fresher’s fair, where students aspiring to play representative Sport need to register their interest with the relevant club(s). However all information is available on the Student Union Website.

Q. The Hertfordshire Sports Village is situated on the new de-Havilland campus, does this mean it is just for the University to use?

A. Principally for student use, the Sports Village is also open to the local community who can access the facilities and services available on a pay-as-you go or membership basis. At some times certain areas of the Sports Village are used exclusively by University and community sports clubs, which may limit casual use. For further information on availability of specific facilities and services, please contact reception.

Q. What facilities does the Sports Village have?

A. Hertfordshire Sports Village boasts a wide range of state-of-the art facilities for fitness, swimming, climbing, racquet sports, football, basketball, volleyball, cricket and much more. For a full list of facilities please click here.

Q. Do you have to be a member to use the facilities at the Sports Village?

A. Yes for Vision Health & Fitness. No for centre membership but you will save money if you are. There are two types of membership available.

Centre membership entitles users to member discounted rates on all activities on a pay & play sessional basis. This type of membership is ideal for people using the non-health & fitness facilities on a regular basis and is available from less than £1 per week.

To use the Heath & Fitness Club membership is compulsory and covers unlimited access to Vision health & fitness, swimming and all group exercise classes as well as entitling users to member discounted rates on all activities on a pay & play sessional basis.

Q. As a student, can I enter the new Pay As You Go scheme?

A. No. The Sports Village is aimed principally at students therefore we offer them memberships which are SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than what we offer non-student users. Therefore students will not be permitted to enter the scheme.

Q. How can I get to the Hertfordshire Sports Village without a Car?

A. The new site is served with regular public transport with a free park & ride scheme operating between the Campus and the town centre. Buses number 341, 600, 602, 622 and 634 serve the campus every 10 minutes.

Q. How much will it cost to use the Hertfordshire Sports Village?

A. Two types of membership will run at the Hertfordshire Sports Village. Centre membership will give discounts on pay and play sessions and provides advanced booking and payment privileges. There is also a membership scheme for Vision Health & Fitness Club giving unlimited use of the Fitness Club, Group Exercise Classes and Swimming. Non-members can use all pay and play activities but there will be a guest fee of £1 for each non-member. Click here for full details of the membership packages available.

Q. Can I book activities by phone or do I have to attend in person?

A. Members will be able to book any activity up to 7 days in advance by phone or in person and pay for that activity at the time they attend. Non-members will have to pay for all bookings at the time the booking is made, must make all bookings in person (we do not accept telephone bookings from non-members) and can only book 6 days in advance.

Q. Can people with disabilities access the Hertfordshire Sports Village?

A. People with disabilities will be able to access all areas of the Hertfordshire Sports Village and use all the services available. There is a disabled lift for ease of movement around the site.

Q. Will I be able to park at the Hertfordshire Sports Village?

A. Student members cannot park from 8.00am to 5.00pm weekdays. Outside of these times they can park at the de Havilland Campus for a maximum of 3 hours in any 24 hour period

Q. I am a student of another University but live in Hertfordshire. Can I use the Hertfordshire Sports Village when I am home from University?

A. Yes. As a non-member you can use all pay & play activities but will be charged the non-member rate. We also offer special student summer memberships for Vision Health & Fitness which cover membership of our gym, pool and classes from the start of the summer holidays right the way through to the end of September each year. These summer student memberships are available for both UH and non-UH students. Please contact reception at Hertfordshire Sports Village for further information.

Q. Can I cancel my membership or request a refund at any time?

A. UH students can only join on an annual or semester basis. We do not offer refunds unless due to medical reasons or relocation, with supporting evidence. Students can TRANSFER their membership to another student (if required) for a charge of £10, however, we accept no liability for the exchange of monies between students.

Q. If I am part of a University team, do I need to pay to use the facilities during training hours?

A. No, once you have paid the joining fee to the Student Union, you will not need to pay for the facilities during the team’s training time.

Q. Am I entitled to a discount if I am a renewing member?

A. Yes, renewing students are entitled to a £10 discount on their membership, as long as they already received their Technogym key.

Q. Are there discounts for off-peak use?

A. Off-peak use is SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper for all areas of the Hertfordshire Sports Village. For full details on peak, off peak plus and off-peak, member and non-member prices please click here.

Q. What is the difference between an Off-Peak and an Off-Peak Plus membership?

Off-Peak members are allowed to use our Health and Fitness facilities during weekdays between 6.30am and 4pm , with last entrance before 4pm On the other hand Off-Peak Plus members can our facilities between 6.30am and 4pm , and again between 8pm and 10.30pm during weekdays.

Both Off-Peak and Off-Peak Plus restrictions do not apply during weekends. For more information please click here.

Q. Can I pay my membership in monthly instalments?

A. No. Since student memberships are so heavily discounted compared to our other offers we do not accept monthly payments. Students have the opportunity to choose whether they want to sign up for a semester or annual membership only, and have a lot of pricing options due to the flexibility of our membership schemes, from peak to off-peak and off-peak plus.
